You've got to get up every morning with determination if you're going to bed with satisfaction. -George Horace Lorimer
Talk nonsense, but talk your own nonsense, and I’ll kiss you for it. To go wrong in your own way is better than to go right in someone else’s.
So plant your own gardens and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
If you’ve just started your wreck this journal, but got stuck, frustrated or out of ideas how to make it more personal, here are some of my “rules” for my journal, which might help you.
1. If you don’t like a page, make it different. Make it your page. Don’t follow the rules, invent your own.
2. Same goes for pages you have already done. If you don’t like the outcome, find new ways, cover it up, be creative, even if it means to burn the page. To create is to destroy, remember?
3. Don’t be afraid to use new, unusual or unknown materials.
4. It doesn’t matter if the colors bleed through the paper. You can work with it.
5. Paper is patient. Take advantage of it.
6. Your journal is a time capsule for your future self. Make it personal, tell your story, fill it with little details you want to remember (like movie tickets, maps of places you went to, photos and so on)
7. Any dollar store is your best friend if you don’t want to put too much money in your journal, but want to make it colorful and filled with little things.
8. Keep your eyes and mind open. Ideas will come to you time after time.
9. Try out “Gesso”. It’s a miracle for every journal. You can thank me later. :)
10. Don’t compare your journal to others. It’s like looking through a beauty magazine if you want to feel prettier - it doesn’t work.
When something bothered me, I didn’t talk with anyone about it. I thought it over all by myself, came to a conclusion, and took action alone. Not that I really felt lonely. I thought that’s just the way things are. Human beings, in the final analysis, have to survive on their own.
